Put it in nuetral and try again.
You need to start at the furthest point away from the battery with the key on and keep checking power til you find it. Your ignition switch could be a problem too

With the key in the start mode (or accessory mode)? sorry .. I'm a stupid mechanical guy.
You checked your battery voltage at the battery, but did you check your battery cable connection? Check that voltage at your alternator or starter to see if the battery cable is making a good connection. Often times with a bad battery connection, you will see 12+ volts in your accessories and at your starter until you turn the key. Then it goes "click" and dies. Did it just start doing this?
As for the neutral safety switch, you can jumper that to eliminate it. Sounds like a bad battery cable or connection to me.

OK.. Thanks.. I will jump the nuetral safety switch.. and yes I do just get a muted metallic click when I turn the key to start.. I'll check my battery connections.
Since I am by myself it is hard to check voltages when the key is in the start position ...
Pull on the headlights and turn the key to start. If the lights start out bright and go dim with key start actuated, its either a bad battery or a short in the starter...badly worn brushes?
Just to check connections, hook the positive meter lead to the starter lead and the negative to the frame of engine (not across the battery) and turn the key to start. How low does the voltage drop when you do that?
