Default A little heater help please

Guys i got a 454 70 without air and you can barley feel any air blowing anywere, the blower blows on all speeds and blows hard but barley and i mean barley feel any air.I can feel the change over when you rotate the wheel but you haft to feel real close and listen for it.
I found a nest of insluation and mouse turds under the ash tray and i took some of the dash appart and cleaned it all up and checked for chewed wires and everthing looks good so far.You guys think that they might be a nest or something blocking the air near the heater core or near the fan out under the hood?I can only see so much from the sides and i didn't take it all apart.
Were do you guys think i need to go to check next?

probably in back of the heater core, that's where the air door is. shouldn't be to bad to remove the heater core cover on non ac car. you will probably need to remove the heater core to get to it.

Hi gy,
Certainly might be a nest in the heater box.
Removing the blower motor will let you check for a clog on the engine compartment side of the heater core.
While the left side thumb wheel that controls hot/cold is a cable, and so is easy to check, the right side thumb wheel controls a vacuum switch.
Have you checked to see that the defroster door 'pot' (end of heater box, red/blue hoses), and the air door 'pot', (top of heater box, black hose), are in fact opening and closing the doors completely?
If you look carefully at the heater 'floor diffuser' located forward of the radio you'll see it can be removed. Taking it off will give you a little more access to the inside of the heater box.
Regards,
Alan

My entire ventilation/heating ducts fro rhe corners of the wiper tray to the kick panel vents to the inside of the heater "box" was filled with leaves/acorns/dirt/grime and had a very misty odor when the blower was turned on.
I also flushed/pressure-tested the heater core while it was removed.....and replace the deteriorated seal that fits on the large air diverter door inside the heater box, and the seals on the kick panel vent doors.
I spent a day getting a couple gallon cans of trash/nests out of the vents/lower cowl area between the fender and the cabin wall.....then I used wet cloths and 409 Cleaner to wipe/clean all the internal air-flow system/internal kick-panel system/cowl area system----it was well-worth the day I spent on it.....plenty of FRESH AIR now.

Thanks,i can see and work the temp control with the right wheel so it is working back and forth good.I cant see the vac control in the middle but i can see the one on the drivers side and it has one vac line hooked up to it.How would be the best way to see if they are working?hook a vac pump up to it to see if it holds vac or what is the best way to check these out?I figure if they are working good it is a nest of stuff in my duck work somewere.
To see the middle one do i need to take the gauges out or just pull them back enough to see it or what is a good suggestion?guess i may need to take some of the passenger side dash out.

Hi G,
Removing the passenger's side dash pad will give you access to the vacuum pod on top of the heater box. You can look in behind the center gauge cluster.
How much of your dash is currently apart?
Regards,
Alan

Right side dash pad removed.

Thanks again to alan 71 for the pics,i found the problem today. The little valve in one of your pic,the one on the right behind the passenger side dash was working but the inside was stuck and was not letting any air through.I kept working it with my visecrips on the little end sticking out of the box and oiling it and soon it began to work by itself when you run the thumb wheel up or down.Plenty of air good and hot an works perfect now.
