Default Upper Cowl Bonding Strip

I'm replacing the upper cowl bonding strip; the triangle piece held on with the 3 rivets at the base of the windshield. The AIM shows what to use to seal the rivets, but I don't see anything for between the fiberglass bond strip and the birdcage. I can tell they used something here, but I don't see it in the AIM. Do I need to use panel adhesive here or seam filler?

Hi c,
In my 71 AIM (if I'm looking at the right sheet) I'm looking at UPC 1 Bolt/Weld, Sheet A7, "Body Hinge Pillar & Door Extension & Filler".
I'm looking at "Item 2, Strip Lower W/S Bonding". Is that it?
In detail "View B" a cross-section of the steel and fiberglass through that area is shown.
A pocket of 'material' is shown and called out as "Bond". I'd think you would use whatever you're now using as panel adhesive.
Have you seen that?
Perhaps DUB will be along soon and be able to give you some better/additional guidance.
Regards,
Alan

When I rivet these corner pieces in...and ALSO bond them where they do get panel adhesive to bond to portions of the fiberglass. The area UNDER this panel...where the 3 pop rivets go....I use a seam sealer to MAKE SURE that NO WATER EVER can gets UNDER this panel when water is running off the windshield.

SO...when I go to put it on place...I make sure that a portion of the sealer DOES come out on the edge where water will hit this seam first...and make sure that it is sealed off. THINK ABOUT WATER when you are at this area...and how you can direct it where it needs to go and NOT allow it to go where it is NOT supposed to go. If the owner does not want the sealer to be seen...then I use 3M black strip caulk and apply it on the underside edge of this panel so the seam sealer does not ooze out because the strip caulk is creating a damn....so to speak.

ALSO...when this panel is off....in the area that was hidden by this panel you will see a hole that was covered by a blob of black sealer. I have found that I can touch this sealer blob and it falls off....SO...I MAKE SURE that this hole is covered....even though this hole is not in the direct flow of water....I do want it sealed off.

I use SEM catalyzed beige seam sealer.
