I doubt that it will bring $44k on Ebay... It would bring that much or more at one of the big auctions but the fees there are insane.. They are trying to make a quick $10k here.. Don't think that it will sell for much more than about 39k or so on Ebay.. Maybe I will be proven wrong..
I doubt it'll bring much over $30,000 on EBAY and the dealer probably doesn't expect to sell it on EBAY. It's on there for worldwide exposure for cheap advertising. When it's sold, the buyer will have seen it on EBAY and contact seller after auction ends. Then the seller doesn't have to pay success fees. My guess is the dealer negotiated something around $30,000 and $32,000. He can knock 10% off asking price and like you said, put $10,000 in his pocket.

My friend who was interested in the car said that they would not want to go below $35k.. I can imagine that they wouldn't have rejected a $32k or $33k offer.. My friend passed on it and so did I..
Catalytic Converter was removed at some point with an intermediate pipe used to fill the space. Don't know why they wouldn't just replace exhaust with duals if going to the trouble to remove cat.
It is a nice well optioned car. I wonder why the original purchaser would not have chosen the L82 option as he selected just about every other option except Z07 suspension. Big Mistake if he was holding it for future collectability.
If the car was never registered, I don't think a dealer/collector would remove such an important item as a catalytic converter. Under the car looks to me like a car with a speedometer cable disconnected or inoperable for many, many, many miles. Also, why wouldn't you leave the original tires on it and let the new owner replace them if necessary? Even the Firestone 500's would last 4 or 5000 miles. Something seems fishy.

It sounds like your friend, or you, should have jumped on it and then posted it on the forum!!!

disconnecting the speedo or rewinding it some just about everyone did it back in the day almost impossible to verify miles these days
Assume it has many more then decide if youre still interested
By 100k most carbed motors if they still ran were blowing smoke anway
start tossing rocks at me but geez....I wasn't expecting a car anywhere near as nice as alans but with all the hoopla I was expecting it to really look like it did in 74-75 and to me the undercarriage looks like many c3's that have been driven all that time and maintained but not some holy grail of the 74's...like paul and others I feel a c3 or any car should be driven, a non running "art" car has zero value to me, I honestly wouldn't take one for free if I couldnt drive it and or flip it,
This 74 isn't like you are walking into the dealer and buying a new 74 , every wear thing on it is likely worn out or would be super quickly if driven, so while I guess to some it's a stunning example of a survivor if you want to impress me at all...drive it down the road...a lot.
Wow, my the underside of my '79 looks much better than that, never painted underneath apart from the bits I've done, with 6,000 miles on the odo that I assume is 106,000 based on the condition of various parts and the fact it's been repainted at some point. Find it hard to believe that's 3,000 miles?
It would make sense to assume that. A 3000 mi car will still look like one may appear to have some aging but certainly wont look like a higher mile car.
I think it all depends on the climate as for undercarriage condition. While living in GA I bought a motorcycle from a guy who had brought his motorcycle up from Miami. It had been stored in a shed for 5 yrs. I only paid him $100 for it, a Honda 650 Nighthawk, only had 5000 miles on it. But gawd, what a mess the bike was in. That salt air took its toll! The gas tank was rusted, the aluminum was pitted, the exhaust was rusted out. I spent a $1000 putting it right. It taught me a good lesson on where I buy a vehicle from. And it aint coastal Florida!.
