The only stupid question is the one that's never asked lol... I'm doing my first rear diff fluid change in my 75 stingray auto. 350. I was wondering what weight gear oil to use and how much will I need roughly? I purchased ac Delco "limited slip axle lubricant additive" is that the right stuff to add with the new oil? Or is there something different? Thanks I also added a photo of the additive
If you have limited slip you need the additive. If you have an open diff, you do not. You want regular old fashioned 75-90W gear oil. I prefer synthetic gear oil since it lasts a lot longer and tends to run cooler, but any name brand gear oil should be just fine. Any GM dealer will have plenty of gear oil on hand that is GM approved and the OEMs sell good quality lubricants.
That's what you need. For the weight 85/90 gear oil with I think a rating of GL-4. It's in your owners manual. I think 2-3 quarts is all it holds. Again in your owners manual and service manual
I just changed the gear oil in my 72....It held less than 2 quarts of GL-5 plus the additive. Here is a trick I used to get the oil in....Just a rubber tube attached to a funnel. Works on the tranny as well.
