Default Wiper Door Issue...

So I did not check the wipers when I bought my 69. They almost work, as in the wiper arm just barley gets caught on the bottom of the door. I can quickly push the door up 1/8th of an inch and all is well. The door operating mechanism has some play in it and I did not find any replacement parts on line. Obviously not a simple fix.

RainX works well but I'd like to have functioning wipers. Any ideas...

My search feature does not work.

Thanks...

Try adjusting the actuator arm set screw (inside the weather boot).

Hi B,
There are a couple of things that could be causing what you're seeing.
First the linkage nut on the door actuator may need to be adjusted so that the actuator pushes the door further open.
Or, the limit switch may need adjustment to delay when the wipers start until the door is completely open.
It could be a combination of the two.
A couple of pictures.
Good Luck!
Regards,
Alan

The linkage nut. Your actuator may be a different shape.

The plunger and adjustment nut on the limit switch.

Thanks, I worked on the actuator linkage, it was full out. I'll take a look at the other piece.

Default Wiper blades...

Don't know what year your car is but I know when I put new blade refills on my '72 the first time, I began having the same problem. Since then I have read about, and have I have bought low profile blade refills, problem went away.

You say there is lots of play in the door mechanism. They do sell the door bushings and hardware. Most vendors have them. You can disconnect the vacuum from the actuator and see if it has full travel by manually operating it. If you do have full travel, it could be as simple as tall blades.

Keep us posted. Post pics as well. Are you using a computer or a tablet when you try to search. My advanced search function doesnt work either and I use a tablet, but the basic search at the top of the page works except for years, it deletes that which makes it harder

Be sure to check amount of vacuum on both sides of canister as that is the most common thing I have found in older C3's

Could you recommend a low profile blade refill? I am having the same problem.

Thanks,

I had the same problem with the wiper blade catching on the door - you might have a tear in the Actuator boot (I think that's what it's called). In my case, the tear was quite large, however there was still enough air to 'almost' fully open the door.

If the door is catching with the arms as it tries to open:
You could also try to adjust the transmission arms so the wipers are parked fully down.
There are adjustment slots for both arms right at the motor crank ball socket fittings. Try keeping the door open with the bypass **** under the dash, then run the wipers and then park them. If they are not nested down in the keeper bracket at the base of the glass, there may be some room to adjust them to park further down. Just loosen both nuts at the slots, push the arms full down and then re-tighten.
This may keep the arms/blades from catching on the underside of the door as it's opening.

Old thread, is this still an issue?
Another question I'd ask is if you have the original wiper arms.
I had replacements for while which were a bit too tall, interference issues.
Bought reproductions of the originals along with low profile blade holders and blades. Clearance no longer a problem.

It appears that I do have the original wiper arms. The replacements were the same size. We adjusted the screws. The fact that the passenger wiper blade does not sit flat on the window seems to be a pretty good clue that something is not right.

I feel badly about not answering this long time ago, must have missed the replies/questions. Anyway, hope you were able to find what you needed.

Trico-43-160-Steel-Blade-Refill is what I bought, and got them from Amazon
