Bob McKenna here. I had a 1974 Corvette coupe back in the 19080's for a few years, but had to pursue family and career so I sold it. It had been great fun to drive even in Massachusetts in the winter. Prior to that I had owned a 1964 Jaguar XKE roadster. That was cool, but the Corvette was better. About 5 months ago I purchased a 1971 Corvette big block coupe with a four speed transmission to get back into the game that I had been missing. I found the car on the internet, went to Masterpiece Vintage Cars in Indianapolis to see it and drive it, and then had it shipped home. The weather in Michigan has not been conducive for driving it yet (only one trip to the gas station before the weather turned bad). This is a numbers matching car that has spent some time in the Rick Hendrick's collection. It is generally in good shape but it needs some TLC (e.g. Paint, Carpet, inside door panels, seat covers a radio rebuild, etc.) to bring it up to snuff. Most of the parts I have ordered so far have come in and when the weather warms I will start some serious work on it. In browsing the CF for the past couple of months I have come to learn that this is the place for help and advice, so I will be in touch. Although I know I shouldn't I am also posting this 'Hello' in the New Member Forum to introduce myself to the broader audience.
Bill,
Hadley is about half way between Oxford and Lapeer a few miles West of M24. We are on Lake Lapeer if that helps. Hadley has one 4-way stop in downtown.
Real nice car! Downtown Lapeer has a car show every Monday night starting at 5:00 pm, not sure Of the starting date. Tractor Supply parking lot on Van **** in Imlay City has one on Thursday nights all summer. Large crowd in Lapeer and smaller group in Imlay City. I live in Dryden by General Squier Water Park, if you are familiar with that area.
Hi Bob,
Very nice bb 71 in those pictures!!!
I like the black-walls and rally wheels a lot!
It looks like there's still some nice original parts on the car so I'd like to encourage you to save anything you replace if you even 'think' it may have been on the car when it left St.Louis.
Good Luck! I hope it gives you lot's of pleasure!
Regards,
Alan
I'll hafta look on the map later 2day, cuz I still don't exactly know where you're at.
I'm south of Coldwater....right on the Mi./Ind. border at I-69.
I've had my '79 L82 since Jan of '15, and have rebuilt the entire front & rear suspensions, brakes, rad. core, fan clutch, fixed tach, new plugs, oil & filter,
trans. rear seal, & other odds & ends...don't quite have 50% above what I paid for it...yet!
