When I get my 69 big block roadworthy, Route 66 will be my first big trip!
Thanks for the inspiration!

"Old" route 66 is definitely on my bucket list if I can find what is left of it . It's a shame that they didn't keep it open as a scenic route across the country . Interstate highways are a boring way to travel.
I have a book called " Keeping you on the Mother Road" that helps guide you through the remaining portions of Route 66. On a cross country trek three years ago we travelled alongside some of the abandoned sections. One chunk ( in OK or NM iirc) was only accessible by a dirt track through the ditch between the road and the main highway. That section even had weeds growing in the asphalt. We have a pic of our SUV in front of an abandoned gas station. Definitely a bucket list trip but time hasn't been kind to Route 66.
I drive the stretch from Tulsa,OK to Miami,OK several times a year. That was all I was doing yesterday.

I did Chicago to Santa Rosa, NM after picking up my Great Uncles 78 Silver Anniversary last summer. More than half way. Will do the rest next year. You would be surprised how much of the old Mother Road is still there.
