Default SOLVED: C3 Power Window stuck down trick

Finally figured this challenge out, thanks to a great fellow member DUB here. Problem: Power window motor fails and locks up, while window is DOWN. Can't access the three old motor mount bolts because the glass and metals runners are in the way. Window won't budge UP or DOWN.
Solution: Remove the bolts on the Electric Side of the motor (photo #1), this will allow you to expose the motor itself (Photo #2). Turn the motor by hand while pushing IN and the glass will move UP and DOWN. Once I did this, the motor replacement job took less than an hour and the window power is like new. Thank you, DUB!

The third photo shows the infamous "don't forget to temporarily install this bolt" that prevents the large Spring from popping and causing damage. Any large bolt and nut will do the trick.

Default Helpful post - and a question

Hi , I am doing the same replacement on a late model 76. I have the replacement motor in, but I can only get two bolts threaded. The third bolt is just not happening. Is it possible to remove my safety bolt, the one that keeps the spring from cutting off my fingers? Since I only have two of the motor bolts and I want to check with you all and see if I’m still safe.
Any help is appreciated for this noob.
Thanks!

(Kinda an old thread. You may get a slight slap on the wrist for not starting a new thread and linking back to this one.)

I'm a little suspicious of how things are going together because the motor mount has embossed rings around each bolt hole to register it with the regulator plate. If two are engaged, the third should also be in alignment. A pic may help us see if something is out of place.

As long as the entire window and hardware are connected as they should be for operation, you can remove the bolt**. The spring is there to assist with going up, so it's not going to suddenly slam downward. Keeping the motor in place with the two bolts loosely in place, remove the spring safety bolt and try either pulling the window up and down a bit or jog the motor electrically to see if the 3rd hole will line up. With the three embossed rings registered in the regulator plate, the motor should not pivot at all - even without any bolts in place.

** I've completely removed and replaced my '72's window motors from the assembled hardware to clean & grease them without any issue. No spring safety bolt is needed.

Much appreciated!
I didn’t have the motor mounts aligned properly, and it turns out my other two bolts were not threaded properly. The geometry was all off - I pulled it out and realigned everything.

Also, removing the regulator bolt had no effect: my window was half way up and I took the bolt out. Still have my fingers !

Thank you so much for the advice.
