Does anyone know if there is a video/audio of the sound of different brands of replacement mufflers for C3? I have replacement Flowmaster series 40 on my BB 68 convert (out the back valence, not side pipes) and am curious how other makes, like Borla, Dynomax, Magnafolw, etc. might sound.
I recall one of the vendors (think it was Magnaflow) had a demonstration vehicle set up with about four different exhaust systems installed so you could switch from one to the other on the car to hear the difference.

Maybe I'll ruffle some feathers with this, but after having tried many mufflers on my '71 my experience is that both turbo-style as well as "straight through" mufflers all sound exactly the same. The only difference is how loud they are and if they drone. And if they drone, at what rpm they drone.
The only mufflers with a different sound were flowmasters, but they droned the worst of all.
Oh, and the Dynomax VTs (with the flap door) rattle.
So far the best muffler I've found is the Borla XL. Doesn't drone and reasonable volume.

Well I found a link for sounds of all of the current Flowmaster mufflers on a Dodge Challenger with a stroked 340
but am still looking for something similar using a BB with headers and cam like I have in my 68 convert. GM, Ford and Chrysler engines all have a distinctive sound, which can be amplified by the muffler. At least on the Challenger, the series 40 I have is the loudest and most aggressive. Not intended for driving your grandmother to church.
