I've never seen guards red look that orange. I've had a few cars and a truck shot with it. I'd call it more of a medium Red, but if you go too bright you lose depth. Its a great color.
It does look a little orange in the photo, but it was in the bright sunlight and was hard to photograph. Its very red.
My wife went to order her Porsche in Dark Blue and when we saw the same GTS in Guards Red, that was the end of it. Nicest red Ive ever seen. Here's an indoor pic of it:
Both Torch Red and Roman Red (which was used on Corvettes from 59-62), are both very bright reds, with a lot of orange in them.
When placed side by side, Torch Red and Roman Red, are both brighter than Victory Red.
Red Hot, which is found on a number new GM cars and trucks, is also a very bright red, and brighter then Victory Red.
I just traded in a 2011 Victory Red Silverado on a 2016 Cardinal Red (what GMC calls Red Hot) GMC Sierra. When the two trucks were parked beside each other, the new Cardinal Red/Red Hot, was noticeably brighter, than the Victory Red on the 2011.

I remember first seeing Torch when the the C5s came out, it got your attention.
The Cardinal you mentioned looks pretty bright too.
I shot a video today while testing the p/s, you can see the color doesn't turn orange in full sunlight like torch seems to, it just gets more vividly red. Which is why I went with flame.
Ok I'll throw mine in the ring, my last project I looked for a color that had impact ... I think this was the right choice for the car! Lots of other great reds out there as you can see but for me VIPER RED was it!!
