I just could not stand the way the vent area looked on the side of "Lucille" so I went to a big box store and spent $3.00 for black metal gutter cover and $6.00 on tube of silicone. I think it looks so much better.
Yes, it looks nicer when you peer into that hole. But, from an engineering point of view, that grating does block some of the airflow and those vents do 'vent' the heat from the engine compartment.
If it were my car...and the engine had no heat problems...I'd keep em that way.
I have seen this in my town on a Corvette. The concept was the same but the screen was different. And I actually had to go in and re-do it for him...and make it so the screen could be removed and re-installed....which is what he wanted due to wax build up and stuff collecting in the corners.

That would be a 'fun' one to try to customize because GM did make a nice grille that screws into that area as you know. I have been asked to do 'something' there..and when I start to throw numbers at them...the customer chooses to leave it alone.
That looks awesome. I also used gutter screen but like your screens better. So i had some Billet Grill lying around so i cut it up and placed it over the screens.

As cool as all of these others look, I absolutely LOVE this. Looks "factory" to me, like what they should have done... Gives it a finished appearance - Great job!!
Corvette Central sells a few different styles for the side vents. Polished with small and large diamond pattern as well as black.
Im getting ready to place an order but cant decide whether my 74 white exterior/oxblood interior convertible would look better with polished vent covers or black. Opinions ?

I have black vents on my 75 convertible and black interior that is why I went with black. I think you could go either way.
