Hi,

I've found some older threads that detail the process of painting them properly, but pitting was never really discussed. My trim pieces have some pitting, not on the outer edge where the chrome will show, but inside the louver.

Does anyone have experience with something like this? Should I sand the pitting down smooth before primer/paint? Would that lead to the chrome peeling all over? Going at them with polish before paint will probably make them look better, but the pitting will still be there.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hi 76,
I'd only use VERY fine sand paper on the trim pieces. Any scratches made will be difficult to deal with.
I wouldn't try to sand the pits out. I'd try to fill them with something like "3M 05096 Acryl-Green Spot Putty"
This material is easy to work with and holds paint well.
I'd probably try using 400 or 600 grit and even then use very little pressure on the paper.
