Default Fixing leaks.

I was finally able to fire up the engine yesterday. I had to cobble up some plug wires and it looked a mess, but ran really well. More on that in another post....maybe.
Anyhow, I had two leaks. One at the fuel pump, and one on the power steering.
On the fuel pump, it was the supply line to the carb. If feels as if the threads are bottomed out. Any more force and it will wring the fitting. Is the any kind of thread sealer for fuel? The thread's are not crossed, as I backed it out and re- seated the line. Still had the seep.

And similar situation on the power steering. The larger fitting seeped pretty good.

I just use the white Teflon tape on all my fuel fittings. Never any issue.

Both of those components use flared fittings which seal at the joint of the seat(inside the fitting) and the tubing flare. Putting teflon tape/sealant on the threads will not do anything, if the fitting seals properly. If it doesn't seal properly, remove and check for small debris on the seating joint surfaces. These surfaces are supposed to slightly deform to create a sealed joint. Cleanliness is a MUST when these things go together.

Inspect the seating surfaces (both parts) BEFORE assembling them. Better to clean, blend, smooth whatever needs it before re-shaping them under torque loading.

My fuel line to fuel filter had a tiny tiny leak. NO matter how tight I tightened it, it would leak out through the threads. It would leak even when parked just enough to drive me crazy. I even ruined one of the fuel filters and had to buy a new one (expensive factory style).
I put some teflon tape like mentioned above and it hasn't leaked a drop in 2 years.

I just went through this when I installed my new fuel pump and fuel line. Still had a drip after tightening the fitting. I remember seeing this thread a while back. A little lubricant on the threads did the trick and I was able to tighten the fittings and had no leaks.

A light coating of grease on the tube and flare where the nut contacts it, as well on the threads might solve all your leaks. Worth a try:thumbs:

Lars doesn't like Teflon tape, but a small amount on the threads seems to work. Just don't overdo it if you use tape.
