The engines from '72- '79 weren't that much different. '72 and later cars rated HP based on "SAE Net" standards, so they had lower output numbers simply because of the rating system. The '71 and '72 engines were nearly identical but were 70 hp different...just because of this rating change.
In the mid to late 70's, GM and other manufacturers de-rated their HP claims by simply rating them at a lower peak rpm. Every engine will make less HP at lower rpms than at higher rpms. But, doing this kept HP ratings lower, thus reducing insurance costs. Also, the 'muscle car wars' were over, due to EPA requirements; so high HP cars weren't the rage anymore.
But the SBC engine was basically unchanged, except for emission equipment, lower compression on cylinder heads and puny camshafts...oh, and single exhaust pipes!
Change the heads, cam, intake manifold (maybe) and go to dual exhausts and the power is back like it was.
P.S. Swapping out the Q-Jet for an Edelbrock [old AFB design] carb is NOT a way to get higher HP...it's a way to get LOWER hp. Nothing wrong with a Q-Jet for performance, if it is set up right. And, the Q-Jet is a LOT more efficient carb than any other brand.

That's an interesting invoice. The dealer sold the car to A-1 Truck Services on April 10. Just curious, but what is your time built date on the trim tag?

I know the wheels and mirrors are not correct but that's an easy fix. Also a few oil leaks around the timing chain cover and near power steering an easy fix.
Paint is original and interior.

Did all the L82s come with an aluminum intake that one appears to have a painted one cant tell if cast iron (L48) or not
cant see the print well whats he asking?
How much more power do you really want and willing to spend on it?
Are you worried about the whole value vs miles thing or just want a fresher C3 to play with?
