I noticed several C3 forum members have recently purchased new (old) cars. I would include myself in that number. Normally I am a fanatic about tires, but the tires on my C3 looked almost new and I planned to check them later.
In the meantime, there was a show just across town so I thought I would get away with it.
The good news: I was only driving 35 when my right rear tire literally split open. There was no damage to my car or injuries.
I did miss my car show but that is a small price to pay for my stupidity. My tires were 15 years old. I was lucky that a NTC was open in my town today and they had a set of suitable tires in stock.
The moral of this story is if you recently purchased a C3, especially one that has not been driven frequently, Check the date on those tires before you go out in the car. It may save you a lot of unneeded hassle.
I too made mistake of not checking dates on tires when i bought mine. I drove on them for about 2 months before realizing i was driving on 16 year old tires. I wont make that mistake twice :-(
I have Eagle STs on mine. Think they may be a little old? Stopped making them about 20+ years ago? :-) Like brand new tires though. Still soft and supple. I know, I know..... I am still buy new tires for it though.
Yikes - i hole you're not going faster than 30 on those ancient tires. Thats a blowout waiting to happen !

same that is on mine, im pretty sure they are around 25-30 years old, they are in exceptional shape for being so old though.

I went ahead and ordered new BF Goodrichs yesterday when I got home. Better safe then sorry. I'll sell the Eagle STs to someone who may want them for show or something. they are in such incredible shape though that it will be hard to part with. My date code is 44W. Whatever that means.....
