Default seat cover install

I was watching a video from corvette America to install the seat covers and they were attaching I think the foam to the bases (or maybe the covers) there are some clips that you use a hook tool to hook onto, are these clips prone to coming off? I was at a couple upholstery shops and they were using zip ties instead (?) and I saw someone else use string and tie them, wondering why they are not using the proper clips?

Not really. They pass through the foam using the tool and hook to the springs to hold the foam in place.

The original hooks are frequently broken or get cut off rather than removed.

If you purchase "installation hardware" it comes with new hooks but they are pretty generic and in my case some didn't match the originals in lengths (we mostly reused the originals) and were not as heavy gage either. The really short ones are a bit of a PIA to install because they are so tight on the foam but they do go. Longer ones are of course easier.

Some people feel the they (the hooks) pull the covers too tight and resort to using zip-ties or string so they can pull the covers in where they want rather than where the hooks will put them.

I think you would have a pretty hard time getting the hooks to "come off", they're hard enough to take off when you want them to.

Just my $.02

I was watching a video from Corvette America...

I wish installing the covers were that easy.

Seat Covers - Mounted...no video needed.

"Mooser' basically said it all.

Some people choose to re-invent the wheel and do it there way because they do not want to use the correct retainers. And as 'Mooser' wrote...the retainers that are available today are WRONG and they use wire that is not as stout as what GM used...or they leave out some of these retainers in the kit. I have YET to find anybody who sells the ones like GM used.

I am getting ready to post a thread on the seat covers I recently completed...to hopefully show somethings that these videos may leave out.

I have seen interior shops use 'mechanics wire' also.
