Default Dropping an Engine (she's real fine)

Howdy Folks!

I bought a car to teach myself how to work on it, and man have I learned a LOT! (Many thanks to people that have helped me along the way).

Most of what I've learned, however, has been mechanical. I'm almost done with that then the questions with fixing aesthetics will start flowing in from me. (Like how to put in an L88 hood scoop on my L-82 hood properly for clearance).

I'm about to drop in my small block 409 however (Yes, small block 409 ). A lot has been done to it and it'll be pushing plus or minus 500 horsepower. So first of all, do I NEED solid motor mounts? If so, is the vibration going to be unbearable for periods of time?

Also, what is your advice on either: 1) the alternator, water pump, etc being on the engine when it is being dropped, so you don't have to squeeze in to put them on, or 2) mounting the engine and then putting all that stuff on?

I have a Champion radiator and shroud that hasn't been installed yet either, so that wont be in the way. The exhaust pipes came all the way up to stock manifolds, so I'll just take those off to drop it in...

any advice appreciated.

Thanks

Jacob

My $.02, you won't need solid motor mounts, just a good NEW set. And I would leave all of the accesories off since they will only get in the way, and if you are like me, you will probably break something. And welcome aboard, don't hesitate to ask questions ( after you search) and congrats on building your first motor.

Thanks! Any other people with advice? Also, I've looked up as many times as I can and haven't found exactly where the motor mounts would actually go... once I get down there is it pretty self explanatory or what?

I had my water pump on the engine, when I installed it, Alternator no. I can't remember exactly if I had the motor mounts on the engine or on the car. I'll have to look at my pictures. it was pretty self explanatory though.

Hi Jacob,
Here are 2 photos showing the frame's engine mount brackets and the mounts themselves.
The mount bolts to the engine block with 3 bolts and to the frame bracket with 1 long bolt.
This is a sb engine.
Regards,
Alan

Regarding solid motor mounts - I have them on my car and there is no additional vibration problem. BTW - I broke a stock mount and I don't have 500 HP.
