Im starting my first vette build with my 69 and in a previous post i commented on how the fact that a previous owner had replaced the 1969 interior with 78-82ish interior im not sure on the exact year but that is besides the point. I want to resto the interior to its original design. Now I dont care if the interior looks brand new as long as its in decent shape and the period correct colors. Im looking at buying another vette to transplant the interior out of though im wondering what years i can go up too before the interior changes. from the looks of it i can't go up to 76 but im wondering if there is any key factors that i may be overlooking?
Hi MB,
I can only comment on the items I'm familiar with.
The 69 door trim panels were one year only. The 70+ panels will fit fine but look quite different.
Also the 69 seats had headrests as an option while the 70+ seats had built-in headrests.
The patterns in the seat covers pleats varied as the model years went by.
The position of seat and shoulder belts changed as the years went by.
I don't know if these are the sort of things that will matter to you or not.
Regards,
Alan
Post pics of your existing interior. Swapping in Pace Car and later split back bucket seats could have been easy for the previous owner, but dash conversion from 69 to 78 and up is difficult at best.
If I could have found your 68 with the 78-82 interior I wouldn't have to be converting my 79 to chrome bumpers. To me you've got the best of both worlds. I'd leave it as is.
I don't mind the seats to much though they are in rough shape. It's the dash gauges and door panels that bug me. Most of the gauges don't work anyway. Plus It all looks thrown together anyway. When I do this build I want it to look sharp and not like it was done in a back yard.
