I just changed the carpets in my 77 c3 and was finishing up on the drivers side trying to put the kick panel that covers the fuse box back in and while doing so noticed the curtousy light was flickering then it finally went out,not noticing until I got everything together I tried turnning the car on and nothing,no power at all.checked the battery and shows 12.55 volts and read continuity at the fuse box and all fuses checked good.Any suggestions on where to go next.and if not do I trust a chevy dealership or look for a place that does auto electrical repair!!!!!!
If you had the doors open and your interior lights were on all the time..and it took you along time...you might want to put a battery charger on your battery.
Your voltage may be fine but the AMPS are low...because the starter commands the MOST amps of your entire electrical system to start the engine.
I am not at work..and I can not remember off the top of my head if a 1977 has the auxiliary starter wiring harness that clips into a connector at the back if the passenger valve cover area. I know 1978's do.
I have to guess due to not knowing what all you removed or touched in doing your carpets.
It can be in your neutral safety switch at the shifter area.
