I just thought you all might enjoy seeing my near stock (headers/sidepipes) with 1992 street P295 50R 15's in a time trial run against a Hellcat (8 spd Auto). He blew by right near the 330' traps, but I had him for a while. Too much fun
You win on the cool factor, hands down! But.......please be careful running all out on 24 year old tires. A 9 year old tire blew up like a bomb on me. Okay, I'll go back to being a wet blanket.
Thanks for the good vibes, I absolutely agree on the tire thing. I spent the Spring and Summer getting the fuel/oil leaks under control (you wanna talk scary, I should post pictures of the harmonic balancer that I replaced a month ago).
I just had to do some runs before winter teardown of the engine (to get a base line of course, not for fun)
Great video, rooting for you all the way, but I don't understand. The L71 is a tri-power 427, right? When I was 19 years old. I was lucky enough to have a 1964 Sting Ray with a 327, powerglide, stock AFB, bias tires, and competed in the 1972 ALL Corvette Drags at OCIR in Southern California, took 2nd place overall (can't beat a powerglide for bracket racing) but ran 14.40's all day long. Why wasn't the L71 a lot quicker than 14.33?

It was my first ever 1/4 mile experience with anything, my best time trial was a 14.06@98 (with 32psi rears, forgot to lower the pressure in all of my excitement), so I'm thinking with more experience I could have gone quicker.
The engine is a 427 Tri-power 435hp, but I think it's tired, I'm planning on some sort of upgrade to it this winter (AFR Cyl. heads...) so it'll run on 91 oct gas. (it's a NOM car, CE block, but it's the real thing K66 ignition, correct Tach. etc.)
Everybody likes to downplay the performance of new cars - just put $50K in your Vette and you'll out run a Hellcat. That's probably true, but the new cars have to meet strict emission standards, get decent gas mileage and come with a warranty. You'll need more than $50K in any C3 to do all that.

I've beat a Hellcat in my 71'...
They do run bad *** though for 4700lb cars that still get 20 mpg... I like em a lot and I'm not a dodge person.

Cool 71, give me details on your eng./drivetrain, I'm looking at a project car (C3) with IRS, is it feasible to go below 12's with a muncie or richmond and the IRS?
Your car got off the line well, so I don't think that your engine is "tired". Suspect the tri-power may not be opening fully and that would hurt the top end speed. I would suggest that you look for problems with tri-power setup before you do any rebuilding.
I've used a borescope to video the opening action and data logged for rpm/vacuum for another member that was having issues, they work. I cut a 14.06@98ish on test day (rainout so only one run) and my final race the next day was a 14.16 (put some quicker springs in the TI dist for that run, play day). I think my driving is part of it, first time on a strip. I'll be dynoing the motor before rebuild (compression/leakdown this weekend), so I have a baseline. main reason for rebuild is allow for running 91 oct.
