C3 virgin question.

C3 virgin question.
We are removing all the components in our 68, 427engine bay. Embarassed to ask this but I cannot seem to figure out what the "tank" like structure that is on the drivers side, next to the master cylinder and booster, just behind the front tire. It is not a windshield wiper fluid tank as is present on some diagrams I have looked at. Frustrated I cannot figure out what it is.

Hi c1n,
Besides knowing that it doesn't leak the important thing to know about the tank is it's impossible to get the tank out of that space between the apron and firewall with the master cylinder in place. You see one of the 3 mounting legs the tank has in the picture Tf posted. It's those legs that prevent it from being dropped straight down. They make the space required to get it free larger than it appears.
This means anything you want to do to it needs to be done early in the dressing of the engine compartment so that the tank can go back in place while the master cylinder and the 2 lines to the brake fluid distribution block can be pivoted out of the way.
More than a few folks have learned this the hard way.
It's especially tricky and therefore more important on a car with power brakes as you can imagine.

You guys always come to my rescue!! Thank you. Great! We already have the master cylinder pulled and a new one ready to go on, so hopfully will not be an issue with removal.
Shall I paint it gloss black? Also I thought about painting my booster too, although mine looks like dull aluminum at this time. Is there any way to paint the brake booster while in place or should it be pulled as well?

Hi c1n,
The vacuum storage tank was originally painted semi-flat black. The same paint was used for many other small parts and brackets that were painted through-out the car.
The power brake boosters were one of the few parts painted semi-gloss/gloss black. Another was the fan itself.

OK, just ordered it on Ebay!
I have a pile of books we have been referencing, Haynes repair manual, restore and mod guide, parts books, owners manual re-pop and others, but certain details were not answered, hence I turned to the forum because you guys are AWESOME!
Hopefully some day I can pay it forward and offer help and not just be a "consumer". I appreciate you all so much!
