Alan you the Best ! What was holding me back were the power window connections, there was virtually no play in the wire. So upon working them out bingo the console slid off as you said. I messed up not mentioning the PW option. My bad, but live and learn.
Thank you Alan.

Was intrigued in the discussion re safety float glass etc.

Made me go outside and look at mine.

Assume this means my 71's is a later replacement as well

Don't feel bad I also found my drivers side window while original on another car is not original to mine because of the date code. Dec Vs March. If I were to be having it judged I think there is a span of time for allowance per NCRS. Oh well. If you want a new dated glass look up the site, Pilkingtonclassics.com

Thought I'd post some pictures of a sampling of the Lake Tahoe/Truckee snowfall in case anyone was missing "Winter" ! I think I'm gonna need a bigger shovel.

Thanks for allowing me to re-live the "fun" of the shifter console removal/replacement. Several recent threads on the best method to coax it all back together again, but I think you're a ways away from that step.

Also looks like you might have had a CB-equipped radio head installed!

Your right no fun at all. Actually has me thinking of redesigning the entire dash when I get back to that point. GM sure could have made it easier. The radio is an old Audiovox unit with CB and I too remember the days traveling the highways asking " Where the hell is Smoky sitting good buddy".

Hi c,
REALLY enjoying your photos!!!!
Excellent dash/console coming apart photos.
If you decide you might not reuse that jute padding on the transmission tunnel I'd love to make you an offers for it.
Again… like the photos!
Regards,
Alan

Alan sorry I pushed the wrong button. As far as the jute padding goes send me your address and I gladly mail it to you. Now a Question: How do I remove the drivers side dash ( speed/tach) ? Ive disconnected the speed cable under the car for slack and have removed the ducting, dash pad and disconnected wire harness under dash but yet can't get to the speed cable connection at the speedometer. I've also loosened to steering column and I'm thinking I have to remove it completely, which of course I was going to do but not just yet ? what am I missing ?

Alan just a note to let you know I figured my question out. Drivers side speed/tach is removed. Got a few war wounds along the way for free

Looks like a great car to restore. There are so many small things I noticed that show it's a very clean and well looked after car. Keep the pictures coming.

Looks like a nice solid car to start with and you're doing it right. Documenting the dash as it comes apart will help greatly when you go to put it back together. I've got too much experience working under the dash I'm putting in new wire looms this time and swapping to a 5 speed, and its still a PIA (especially the tacho cable).

Good luck with the re-build

I'm putting in the SST auto to manual 5 speed TKO Tremec conversion kit, and I'm nearly done. SST has been great to work with. First time for me to do a manual install, and I opted for the CSC hydraulic clutch set up. I did run into one issue with the kit, the drive shaft was too long so I took it to a local shop and had it shortened (their suggestion).

I had purchased new wiring looms last year, and got into it this winter. It was one of those "while I've got the dash torn out" sort of decisions, although I had looked into doing the conversion a couple of years ago. This year the stars aligned, and I pulled the trigger. Next winter I may consider upgrading the suspension, plus go through the differential as it's still the original with about 80 - 90K miles on it.

Thank you for the information I'm sure going to consider it as I go through this project.
