Default 79 temp gauge electrcal problem

On my last trip in the vette the temp gauge start to show over the 260f line. It heppen only when i turn on the lightes (in the same time the light in this gauge stop working)
When i turn off the lightes the temp gauge return to the normal operaiton temp range.
Is it the electricl card of the gauge or only the burned light bulb?

Does the car actually over heat? If it gets to an actual 260, you'd know it.

Sounds like a 'grounding' problem....most likely on the electrical circuit board (if you have a later model C3). Possibly a broken foil line going to ground; the gauge (when not lit) might be able to scavenge a ground by another path.

Something tells me you will find a short in the printed circuit behind the gauge pack. It will be between one of the leads to the temp gauge and one of the lighting leads.

Those printed circuits tend to delaminate over time. They're moderately repairable (with patience) but my replacement (mine from Willcox) is superior to the original and reasonably priced.
