Default Muncie I D

Looking at a Muncie with the following #'s- P2P15A-I got that decoded but another number is 12S503783-was told from 72 Corvette but the 12 doesn't jive with year date. Any help? Thanks, Tom

P2P15A =
P = Muncie 4 speed
2 = 1972
P15 = Sep15-1971(oops ... corrected)
A = M20

12S503783 =
1 = GM
2 = 1972
S = StLouis
5 = Control number
03783 = serial number

The P15 is most likely for September 1971, I think the 2 is for production year, not necessarily the year it was made.

That also makes sense with the sequential serial number as its pretty low.

Thanks for info-trying to get shifter install kit from Hurst and don't really know which kit. Going in 69 Camaro and looks like tailshaft is a M-22 shaft from 70-74 with 3 mounting holes for shifter. Hurst is working on this for me and looks like a 72 Vette linkage kits will work. Any suggestions? Thanks, Tom

Hi tt,
Remember that 70-72 Corvettes had a separate bracket, that mounted to the transmission crossmember, that the shifter was mounted to.
The shifter didn't mount to the transmission.
I don't know if that affects your search or not?
Regards,
Alan

Thanks Alan I knew you'd have pix!!! Just kidding. My 68 bolts directly to tailshaft and didn't know 72 was diff. Hurst said to get the 72 Camaro kit and should be correct mounting to tailshaft and rods. We'll see! Thanks to everyone here-lots more info and busier than on Camaro forum
