Ok so I bought this car 2 weeks ago the guy said he drove it around his yard 2 years ago 1 time. not sure how long it sat before that. when I pick it up the driver rear e-brake was stuck. we were able to get it started. and rocked it and the brake came loose. and the tire on the passenger side was spinning. so in the past 2 weeks I changed the plugs wires. Gas and oil change. just replaced the calipers and pads and bled the brakes tonight. wanted to drive it for the first time and started it. put it in drive and it just revs up. same in reverse. tried a few different times. I put it in neutral and pushed it about 2 feet. put it in park and it wouldn't move. seems like it's shifting just fine but won't go forward or reverse. just revs up. any ideas would be greatly appreciated
Trans fluid is completely empty. I checked that a week ago. i could have swore there was fluid. anyone know how much a c3 takes and where to fill it?
Sounds like U need 2 get yer hands on a SHOP MANUAL, and read thru it.....I personally would be humiliated if I had to ask such a question without finding the info. myself.....After all, there's so much more info in it that you will NEED to do much of anything!!
People are willing to help, but you need to help yourself to at least let people think you ARE trying to figure things out rather than just asking all the time & not learning by DOING!!
if the fluid was completely empty, that would of course be why it's not moving. the question is why is the fluid empty. I'm betting surely there's a big leak somewhere. If it were mine, I'd fill it up, see if it moves, and then try to figure out where the leak it coming from. For a car that sat for a significant amount of time, I'd brace myself for full trans rebuild because that's highly likely.
Yea I just don't know where it could have leaked at? when I picked it up it drove up to the trailer. as for the one guy that told me to help my self. I appreciate your reply and have a shop manual. I also can't sit around at work reading it so I ask questions on here to get other people perspective. but you were kinda being an A hole. anyway there aren't any signs of leaks on my floor in my garage. no leaks on the trailer.
Get the right transmission fluid, fill the tranny through the transmission dipstick tube. I suspect it will move after that. Then watch for leaks. Don't worry about the critics. A forum is for enthusiasts to help each other.
I read on here it should take dexron 2 but it's hard to find. so dexron 3 can be used? how many quarts go in? I looked underneath the car last night. there is a black circle thing in between the oil pan and the tranny pan. it looks to be a bolt missing. could that be some kind of drain plug or maybe it's a hole punched through it? don't know if that's the torque converter or not. so let me let everyone know. I'm 27 years old. never have even drove a carbureted vehicle before and know nothing about old cars. so keep the insults to yourself please. I bought this because I love how the c3 looks and wanted one.

welcome
The trans and torque converter have to be full to move .Its possible when you add fluid at first it's filling the torque converter shock takes quiet a bit. Also check your radiator and make sure there is not trans fluid in coolant.I am trying to recall that it took around 12 quarts to fill .You might put in a seal conditioning agent like Lucas makes.Don't feel bad about some forum people bashing you there are many of us here to help.Try not to rev it up when you first put it in gear as if it catches you could do damage just put it in gear and wait a little.
Good luck
Wes
Thank you 530 plane man. I'll just add one quart at a time wait a couple mins and check the level until it's full. gonna be a fun process. so close to driving it for the 1st time
