I have a set of Dean's and they are high quality. And you will pay for it, they aren't cheap.
I get comments all the time about side pipe burns. I demonstrate by putting my hand directly on the dean's shield and keeping it there. You will not get burned by them.
It's good quality stainless that does not rust.
The Cobra ones are a different look. I like them as well. Don't know if it's chromed steel or stainless though. Chromed steel will eventually rust.
i got some header wrap and wrapped around the outside of my baffles before i put them in the pipes, on a hot summer day you can drive for an hour and still put your hand on them without burning yourself.
i think hookers have the same baffle setup as dougs so you could do that if you dont like the look of the standoff covers.
I used header wrap on the baffles on one of my previous corvettes and the metal covers only got warm . No burns.

I've had my Cobras a few years now and they are like new. I think they are chomed steel. The only place they get a bit warm is where the straps attach to the shield but the insulating material between the straps and pipe reduces the heat. Anyway, no burns yet.
Why fix this? It is the stuff of memories. I still remember burning my polyester pants getting into my dad's silver L88 coupe in 4th grade(68 or 69? I can't remember).
Nothing like the smell of burning polyester and skin, all rolled into one Good thing my dad was a doctor. He drove EXTRA FAST to get to his office to treat me. Come to think of it, he drove like that all the time...

I installed the steelshields.com covers for the sole purpose of protecting my wife's legs. I chose the plain covers and for the most part they blend in nicely and aren't that noticeable. I have seen that classic chambered exhaust .com now offers covers so there is another option since last I checked on the steel shields website the plain covers weren't there, unless I missed them. They do have the emblem versions which are nice looking and I gave serious thought to the Stingray ones.
I like the look of these but wanted to know if they stand off the side pipe at all. looks like they have no space or gap in between the side pipe and shield other then the clamp thickness?

I use shields on mine now after my wife burned her leg getting out of our car. The shields put about an inch of space between the pipe and your legs and though they get warm they won't treat your legs like they are a steak on the grille.
Here are the parts with the inserts on the left, sidepipes and shields on the right. Attachment 48043906

Save your legs, buy the shields.
