Default Harness routing behind drivers side panel

1969 corvette L46

I am hung up on installing my drivers side dash panel... been working on this issue for along time .. Sort of embarassing because I started a thread on this 1 year ago. I have made some headway in other areas of the car however.

I have gotten quite a few great pointers so far. ..

However I can't place the harness in a friendly location ..

Apparently a lot of you have no issues with this installation..

I have looked at the AIM..and tried to duplicate that routing as best as I can.

Problem for me is that the harness interferes with the lower light receptacles at the lower portion of the steering wheel arch...

Anyway I was wondering if anyone has a trick up their sleeve with regard to routing of this particular harness.

I looks like in the later years they got smart and routed the harness above the instrument clusters .. but unfortunately not in 69.

Thanks for your help...

I was not aware that in 69 they ran it different. Are you sure you got that information right ? I can't see the dash going back into place any way but running the harness above the gauges. Even at that it is a difficult job . It is very tight.

Yes .. I'm sure... 69 harness doesn't work above the gauges unfortunately.

If anyone has done this with a 69 harness I'd be interested to know how they did it.

Hi b,
From an earlier post.
Does this help at all?
Note the gauge lamps are divided into two distinct groups.
Notice how the harness comes out of the top of the fuse box then immediately drops down along the side of the box, and turns toward the driver, before starting across the dash.
I'm thinking the 'hump' is over the steering column?
Regards,
Alan

FWIW: I tried installing the driver dash harness 3 times before I was able to reinstall the instrument panel on my '68. The harness must have been literally "warmed up" to get it to tuck tightly in place!

Not speaking for the 69 because I am not sure , but on my previous 68 and my 72 I seem to remember there being straps that bolt on to the top of the gauges to hold the harness up so it can be pushed into place . If the harness is not in the exact position it will never go in. Any time I work on the drivers side dash panel on a C3 I dread the job. You have to feel sorry for the guy that had that job on the assembly line .
