While installing a new throttle cable bracket that works with my new carb, part of the throttle cable that snaps into the bracket broke. Is this piece replaceable or do i need to replace the whole cable? And how much of a PITA is replacing the throttle cable?
Before installing a "new" cable in your new throttle cable bracket, you might want to verify that the opening in your new throttle cable bracket is wide enough to correctly accept the stock cable. Just compare the opening to the opening in original bracket for your original carb.
Otherwise, you might find yourself breaking the new cable as well in the same way.
On the other hand, since the throttle return spring acts to hold the cable forward in the bracket, it will not easily come out of the bracket (while attached to the carb). I think I would try to fabricate a "U" type of clamp/clip (on the left side of the bracket) to hold it in place.
Also...knowing that IF the new throttle cable bracket is not EXACTLY positioned where the factory one was...and IF you changed carburetors brands. DO NOT be surprised that if you get it all back together and press the gas pedal to the floor...your carburetor is NOT opening up all the way.
I run into this crap a lot when I get a box of parts and are asked to get them to 'fit'.
Also when the cable is attached to this bracket in your photo....you also want to make sure the cable is level from this bracket to the point of where it attaches to the carburetor. And sometimes these aftermarket cable mounting brackets will not work with some of the facotry air cleaner bases. They conflict... and also the mount bracket may not have the needed pin to keep to the bracket from rotating and indexed into the factory hole in the carburetor when you press your gas pedal. And tightening the nut that holds the bracket to DEATH should not be considered.
