My father, bless his soul (and we had some big trucks like you have there) taught me that anyone can fix something with new parts and the correct tools, but it takes a true mechanic to take whatever they can lay their hands on and MAKE IT WORK. Pretty clever in my opinion. To think I wasted a hundred bucks on a Harbor Freight press. I don't have a big truck but could have found something; big tree branch, bolder, back porch frame....
