Found this car last year. A lady stopped me at a good ole fashioned bonfire and asked if i would be interested in a vette. She told me the year I said i would go look at it. She never gave me a price. When i opened the door this is excactly how i seen it. She told me the story of how her husband died almost 15 years earlier and its pretty much sat ever since. They owned it since the mid 80s. She used to go and start it a couple times a year because her husband would of wanted her to. But she hadn't started it in many years due to old age. So when she told me the price, which btw was unbelievable, i didn't even heckle her on the price. So 1700 bucks later, and getting the stuck rear wheel unstuck. I brought her home. I think I'm going to keep this one. Thanks for viewing my story.
Hi CS,
That's quite an INTERESTING story!
AND, it looks like a very nice car!
Do you think that low mileage is accurate? Or maybe it's on it's second go round?
Anyway, very lucky find at that money!
Have fun.
Regards,
Alan
Thanks Alan. It a tough call. For an iowa car the frame and cage are super clean. The leather is in good shape. But door panels are rough at the upper rear corners on both sides. The engine and transmission run flawless. And she has all of there maintenance wrote down back to when they bought it in the 80s. But someone could of drove the wheels off of it for the 10 or so years before they owned. There is spots on the car that to me look like it has 137k but most look like it's 37k. Lol
Your story makes me recall my 76 story...several years ago i was riding around with tina my wife garage selling,
I didn't feel well and she ran up to a couple houses both having sales but unlike tina she was in a deep conversation with the lady of one sale then disappeared back into a double wide garage,
Tina comes out to car tells me we have to get to bank before it closes, but go look what i bought,
She scored a running near driving 76 needing brakes and bodywork for 2k
The frame was shockingly clean...i did end up flipping it when i bought the 69 but really kick myself should have kept it,
Yours looks really nice and a great price,
That is a very nice looking '76 Corvette. My money's on the mileage being original. Too many things on it just look too nice.
By all means post some additional pictures of the car, engine compartment and underneath if possible. They will reveal a lot about its mechanical age as well.
Thanks for the compliments. I'll post some more pics later today. Your story is pretty kool also. Mine fired up after I filled the float bowl with fuel also. But thankfully this one doesn`t need any body work, but could use a repaint though. Every brake leaked and needs rebuilt. Bumpers are cracked and need replaced also. This winter ive been slowly tinkering with her to get it ready to drive this spring. I'm in northern iowa by algona.
Wives should pay more attention to all of the information about the car so they know what it is worth if they find themselves in the same situation someday. The husbands are probably rolling over in their graves when they see what she is doing. She should at least have an idea if the mileage is low or a turnover. I always talk to my wife about everything including value and future value . I don't think there is much chance of her getting short changed .
