Hi pmr,
All coupes came with 2 vinyl 'bags' to store the roof panels in.
They were intended to be placed on top of each other on the floor of the rear compartment and held in place with the adjustable strap.
Regards,
Alan
Here's the photo of how it's done from the owner's manual.
I put mine in old sweatshirts for a short while before I bought the proper bags. They worked well for a temporary solution, with no damage to either top.
We have a 72, and pretty much store them in car when not as the roof, as the picture displays in Alan 71's post. Not sure if a 77 is much different but we have the 3 point adjustable straps to secure them in case you hit the twisty bits a little to hard.
for storage of them, out vinyl original had seen better days, so I organised an uphosterer to make 2 bags, fleece lined inner and a tough soft tonneau outside (like you get to cover the ute). I heard some people make them from wet suit material, whatever suits your fancy
I don't drive my 72 if there is a 20% or higher chance of rain. My T-tops stay in the garage. If I go on a long drive like to the beach, I have the same cover as REVITUP posted which fits perfect without needed the straps.
Check out eBay. There are used T-Top pouches for sale there all the time. If memory serves, I paid $30 for my pouches a couple of years back. You may be able to find a set of the T-Top straps you are missing there as well.
I have a 78 Pace Car with blue tinted and mirrored glass panels that are very valuable now so I store them in a rack that I built on one garage wall in the original storage bags. Too much hassle taking them on and off and don't want to take a chance in breaking one accidentally. I now use a Fox Raincoat soft top in place of the glass panels when I don't go topless. Besides, the glass panels weigh 13 pounds apiece and the soft top weighs just 5 pounds and is just as quick to put on or take off as the glass panels.
The storage bag idea is OK...but you still have to get them in and out of the storage compartment, which is a PITA (at my age, anyway).
Why not make an inexpensive T-top rack out of PVC tubing that you can buy at a local hardware store. 1-1/2" pipe is very sturdy and you can probably make a nice rack out of that pipe and some joints. Put some padding or carpet strips on areas where painted areas of the T-tops will contact and you should be good. It should only be about 16-18" deep, so not a lot of garage space taken up.
My tops reside on the garage wall on a couple of homemade wood brackets 99% of the time. I pretty much never drive with them on. The only time I put them on is to wash the car, and even then I tried to wash it once without the tops on. That didn't work out too well.
