I seen photos of many manual gear cars with a reverselock lifting a lever with fingers. On my car I just push the stick a bit harder to the left to get it in reverse. Is mine original or anything wrong with it?
Sounds like you have a Hurst shifter, which is a very popular upgrade, but not stock. A stock shifter has the T handle which you lift the T to get it to go into reverse. On my Hurst shifter, I literally slap it to the left to get it to go into reverse. Here's a photo that shows my Hurst shifter.

Post a picture and you'll find out quickly.
If you do have the Hurst shifter, many of the vendors here carry a faux handle that looks very close to the original handle and the reverse lockout "T" is spring loaded so it simulates functioning like the original as well.

No doubt it is a Hurst if it is good or bad I am not sure yet.
Without a doubt, back in the day, anyone interested in speed shifting their 4-speed, sought out the Hurst Competition Plus to give them an edge. Any amateur that ever missed a shift, sought out the Competition Plus to keep from doing it again.
The purists today have plenty of good things to say about the stock shifter. I certainly respect that. However even GM gave in to the simplicity and beauty of the Competition Plus in '84 with the 4 + 3 Doug Nash. They replicated it in every way except the length of throws, to which Hurst offered their own short shift kit.
