Default StarTron Fuel Additive

I don't know how long it's been on the market but I just heard about StarTron fuel additive as an alternative for Stabil . StarTron is supposed to stabilize fuel for 2 years but also re-juvinate old gasoline such as gasoline that has sat in our cars for over a month during the winter . Sounds like a much better product than Stabil . Has anyone used it and what is your opinion. Lowe's sells it and seems to be the best price at around eight bucks. Less than Wal-Mart .

Gas won't go 'bad' sitting over the winter. I would only use a fuel stabilizer if I put a car in long term storage.

I switched to startron 5-6 years ago, much better product especially with 2 stroke lawn equipment, snowmobiles etc. I do give all the cars a good dose before putting them away. Without it the I have had trouble with fuel going bad since they switched to ethanol blended gas in the northeast.

Around here they repeatedly say gas is only good for about a month before it starts to degrade unless it is ethanol free . Not to say that it won't work in your car but it starts to degrade without stabilizer. It will ruin a carburetor on small engines over one winter. Ask me how I know. OK I'll tell you ! I bought a brand new snow blower that sat over the summer before I knew this and had to replace the carb in the fall to get it running again. The ethanol ruins all of the seals and gaskets and clogs the jets.

Ethanol laced fuel... two new 4 stroke yamaha outboards, sitting idle 3 months. Got carbs off both on my bench. Carbs and injectors have to be cleaned repeatedly using ultrasonic. Ask any marine center mechanic. Organic stuff in the bottom of the fuel tank, same in every other device in the chain. Been dealing with this for many years now.

I use in my lawn equipment and seems to last longer than without it. My weed eater is a 2 stroke and has had gas in it for over a year, flipping ethanol at that, and starts without issues. I'm likely going to run super unleaded in te vette, with some sort of leaded fuel or substitute with startron or Stabil 360. I suspect that only less than 1k miles a year will be put on.

WOW!! I'm going out to buy some of that "StarTron", right now! I won't put it in the gas tank; I'll just put it on a prominent place in the garage so that anyone who enters can see that I 'use'... "StarTron".

I have used Startron in the past and yes it does work, but it won't rejuvenate fuel. Currently I am using Lucas ethanol treatment. Stabil is not a bad product but maybe not as good as some others. Now for an explanation I work for a 7 store agricultural dealer; mowers to combines. OEM reps both 2 cycle and four cycle both suggest storage treatment. Nothing against ethanol but it does not store well. Ethanol separates during storage (Phase separation) attracting moisture and separating from the fuel hence corroding carbs etc. Ethanol treatments are "supposed" to suspend the water into small particles in the fuel. The only sure way is to use fuel with out ethanol. Stihl makes a product for 2cycle machines called MotoMix Pure gas and oil mix and it does work.
Unfortunately I have been chastised for this explanation before. But this comes from the horses mouth. But putting in and additive can't hurt either.

The best way to store fuel is to make sure the tank is air tight so no moisture can get in! This goes for cars as well as jugs.

I realize this is hard on our old cars, but all new cars have tightly closed fuel systems.
What I use on my vette is a large plastic plug in place of the vented fuel cap. Gas stays fresh longer, even in FL heat.

I have used Seafoam for years in my small engine equipment and I pour a splash in the vette everytime I put gas in it....Never had an issue with the ethanol since.

Back in our kart racing days we had to flush the carbs with a mixture of gas and marvel mystery oil after every race night....We ran pure methanol which was chemical about the same as ethanol...If you forgot the carb was shot. Ethanol and aluminum don't get along at all.

I store my 1974 each year for six months in winter (October-April). I fill the fuel tank and drop in a bottle of Stabil. That has worked for 20 years. I am not familiar with the product being discussed. A lot of voodoo products out there.

You say Startron won't rejuvenate fuel and that's what the company claims that it will do which makes it better than stabil if it is true . Just curious where do you get your information that it don't work ? Is it fact or your opinion ? That's the question here !

I don't believe that part of their claim. Old fuel stinks and at that points it needs disposed off. I do believe it will help if its only a few months old,

Startron was on the counter at my Harley dealer. They said H-D recommended it over Stabil. I bought a bottle about 10 years ago, loved it and have not bought Stabil since. I use it in every 4-stroke gas tank, from farm tractor, riding mower, tiller, and the FatBoy. 2-strokes already have stabilizer in the oil.

I have had Harley's that wouldn't start djue to bad gas left over the winter, Snowblowers after a low snow season and a Marine dealer told me to use Startron in the tank of my 2011 Mercury Opti Max if the gas was going to be used in 2-3 weeks max.

Rather be safe than sorry.

I think the company is just talking about fuel that is just a few months old . Nothing is going to rejuvenate fuel that is old and smells .

I actually had a Harley Tech that built a motor for me tell me he could tell it was old fuel after I had him switch some bars. I put together a box of parts and he he built about a 110 HP 95 inch Conversion....he took it for a test ride and right back to the shop and drained the tank....called me later and told me that the exhaust was bad and the gas smelled.

New gas and the bike scared the hell out of him....

Doesn't look like much more than a stock 2006 HD SB and it was put together that way....Just a sleeper with 575 lift cams, 12-1 pistons and some big heads......It doesn't like Old Gas.

I guess if you a wrenching long enough you get to know the smells of good and bad what ever.
