It could be worse.
You could have found a freshly dead rat.
Ya, your right. No smell, just a thing to toss. The bummer is I wanted to make sure all the potential water paths were rust sealed and I just forgot this one. It sure would have been easier to clean out when the body was off. I am pretty sure that water that runs from the windshield passes through this compartment. It does on this car anyway.
Question for today....does anyone know if the front chrome bumper has to float from the fiberglass or can it press back on the fiberglass when I snug up the horse collar bracket?
Update with photos....Still a long long way to go....Waiting on rear tires, luggage rack and antenna but overall parts keep coming....Impressed with Vintage Air and Lectric Limited and of course Richard454.
Sleeping on the job again...
Some drama around getting windshield to match up with trim. Not super happy with the condition of the chrome, may have to go at this again.
Headlights and bumper in, man those doors can be a Bi**h.
Thanks Doorgunner for the tips and inspiration here.
One question - Hockey sticks???
Well they actually might be cheaper then a 2 x 4!!!
Finish details look great- I for one can definitely appreciate the work required.
Richard
Ha ha, yeah, this was one of those moments when I was scrambling. I had a windshield guy install it. Luckily I had read posts here on the forum and I was ready with all the trim to make sure it was a good fit before the guy left. When we put it all together there was a pretty good gap at the top and I made him push it out until it was flush then he is just looking at me like, "now what?" I said "you are the expert, how long until it sets"? He mumbled something about 2x4s but my pile of old broken hockey sticks seemed to be a better idea.
Love your approach to wiring, reminds of many wiring diagrams I've drawn over the years. And of all the places I've been in California, I have fond memories of the beautiful city of San Diego. Excluding boot camp the year I spent going through electronics school at MCRD are some of the finest times I had in the Marine Corps.Best of luck on your wiring and restoration.
Looking good!
I like the wiring diagrams, too.
If you're like me, though, you'll go through all that work and then forget where the heck you put them later on!

Thanks! The military is what brought me to San Diego in the early 90s being a defense contractor. And THANK YOU for your Service!

Ha. That is a big problem these days. I keep forgetting where the wire snips that are in my hand are.

Rats! I wish I knew about that before. Great suggestion, but now that everything is mostly terminated, it will have to be for the next project. But luckily the Lectric Limited wires are all marked. I only have a few stray wires that don't have labels. Thanks for the tip.
Into the world of gauges. Yes, more turds. Notice how the PO hacked up the plate to get a computer in the dash. Found another but not quite the correct year. Old - 71 New - Not sure what year but with exception of compression ratio, most should be about right. Decided to brighten up the gauges with white paint. Almost went LED but I want easily dimmable (don't want to look for a remote) Dash pad came out OK. I thought a working clock without a big power draw would be cool. There was drama around this rack. I had unusual hole spacing then parts got lost at the chromer. I had a cow but luckily the parts got found.
Really exceptional work ethic and dedication to quality. Doing all that is harder these day, when you can't guarantee good quality 'stuff'. Price tag for doing stuff WELL goes up, I'm sure.
Keep up the fine work!!

Thanks guys! It is going well, but could be better if I wasn't held up on some parts. My new pet peeve....these vendors have web sites that say parts are in stock but they lie. When you get a partial delivery with the part you need suddenly on back order it really gets frustrating. It is almost like you have to call them because they never update their web sites. I spread my business around and try different guys, but there are a few now that I am going to avoid. I think it is a crummy business model to trick you into buying stuff that they don't have. Sigh. But luckily there is plenty to do so I just have to jump around and have half-done projects everywhere.
I’ve been buying most of my parts from Corvette Central.
They have been really good at keeping their website updated for what they have in stock and when something has an “expected shipped date”, it usually ships on the expected date.
The best part is they only charge my card when the part ships and not when I place my order.
I’ve also been very pleased with the quality of parts I received.
Most are even made in the USA.
WOW!!! WHat an upgrade from the mouse turds! Looking really sharp Paul! THe progress if fantastic and the work you have done is outstanding! ANd having lots to do is good while waiting on the parts! Add in two or three other vehicles and you get absolutely nothing done! LOL! Keep it up!

I agree, usually these guys are top notch, but unfortunately they are the ones that are holding up the installation of my dash pad due to a mysterious delay in finding speakers. I talked with a nice lady today and she assured me they would get to the bottom of it and ship something in the next few business days. We will see. The other guys on my s* list are the big guys in Florida. I need a radio before I can install the center dash and that is nowhere to be found. I have a few other gripes about other companies, but who wants to hear that. My gold star all time good company award goes to Wilcox and Zip.

Thanks Andy!
I also have to agree with Wilcox Corvette as being an excellent supplier for parts.
Corvette Central and Wilcox Corvette are the two companies I always rely on for good quality parts.
Since you are here on the west coast, you may want to consider Corvette Pacifica
The best way is to call them.
They will tell you if they have it in stock or not and if you call early enough
in the day it will be delivered the next day.
