So now back to the 1970!!! Installed (test fit) the door panels, and inserted the glass, and hooked up the power windows...

Getting closer to the day to fire it up again for the first time in almost 16-17 years... making sure everything is tightened, installed, lubricated, etc... it will be a GREAT day when it fires up (I hope it fires up)...

Question: Is your Power Brake Booster "new" or just repainted ? And if just repainted, how did you know it was still in good working order before you reinstalled it ? The reason I ask is that I just removed mine and it was an SOB unless everything was clear and I'm not looking forward to putting it back in. While it worked before, I sure hope it would continue to do so. Is there a way to check it ? Thanks

Hi caskiguy... It's only repainted and not "new"... I suspect I'm in the same boat as you where it worked before, and I'm not sure how you can check it... I'll ask the guy who's restoring my car, and ask him if he checked it and how.

I am also one of those long term multi year project restorers. The other day I was in a tire store having them remove a spare tire from my '68's rim. I had taken it to the store in my truck and had been telling the young guy working on it what it was off of. He told me that his Dad has a '70 Vette setting in his garage partially restored. He tells me that car was sitting in there the day he was born (around 30 years ago) and its still there. I asked him if his Dad ever worked on it and he said, Yeah, every once in a while he still works on it a little. So we are not alone!

A lot of work was put into getting the front grilles perfectly fit... It's overkill as they were never this straight out of the factory... but oh well, what's done is done!

So here are some pictures that date all the way back to 16 years ago when work began on the frame. A LOT of time was put into it, and in hindsight, it maybe would have been best to buy a new frame. It has been treated to POR-15 inside and out so hopefully the rust will stay at bay...

Hi 70,
Very interesting approach to the grill and valance.
I'm curious about what appears to be a 'filler' piece on the perimeter of the grill that abuts the bottom of the outer bumper.(Post 71, pics 13, 14, 15 etc.)
I expected to see this added to the grill as an extension… but don't see it on the re-plated grills.
Where is it?
Regards,
Alan

Hi Alan,

Yeah, my cousin made those pieces and they are not attached to the grilles... I believe I had those pieces chromed as well (I need to check), and not sure how they are attached behind. It will lbe 2 separate pieces, so hopefully won't look too bad when it's all together.

So here is some of the work that went into modifying the rear bumpers... not for the faint of heart... once you take a grinder to them, you're committed!!!

Do you have any updates for us? The extra work on the car really looks good.

Here are some latest pictures of progress... currently fitting all the front grilles, bumperettes, bumper... trying to get it where it all lines up perfectly (no pictures of that yet, but will be coming soon)...
Headlamps were installed, the upper squirter has to be repositioned as it wasn't in the right location. Also some work on tightening the gaps around the headlamp and body... pictures to come soon.
