Default 16 years and counting... 1970 convertible

Well I'm sure some of you know how it goes... I bought my 1970 convertible in 2001, and it has been going through a frame off restoration ever since... yep, 16 years ago... obviously this was done on and off, and mainly off for several years.
And anyone who has gone through a frame off restoration also knows how much it costs (the main reason for the off periods LOL)...
Still no regrets though... I'm hoping to have one last final push this year and get it done.
If you want to check out a bunch more pictures you can check my site at www.9teen70vette.com
Enjoy

P.S. Have I waited patiently 16 years without driving a Vette... heck no... I caved in and bought a 2007 Indy 500 Pace Car back in 2011... Have driven it 50000 miles in those 6 years that I have had it, so no garage queen for me.

When I bought it...

Frame/drivetrain done!

Interior preparation

Engine bay (Base 350/300HP)

Almost there!

Hi my70,
Well this certainly came from out of nowhere!
After a brief look at just the body photos it looks like you've taken this project about as seriously as one can!
The work with the front valance and grills/ front bumper seems pretty involved UNTIL you get to the rear bumper photos!!!!
Have to spend some more time at your site!!!!
Thanks very much for posting the link to what you're doing!
Regards,
Alan

Thanks Alan, actually my cousin is the guy doing the restoration... I'm just the bank!!!!!!
It's not his first kick at the can, and yes he's a perfectionist, so those front grilles had to be perfect, and yeah the rear bumpers... he just convinced me they had to be not as beefy and close to the body... and he is handy with a grinder so I let him go with it... wait until you see the frame restoration pictures. A lot of work was put into the frame and drivetrain. Everything is either refurbished, repainted or new.

I have no doubt it will be a sweet car when it's done... and hopefully that will be by year's end...

Thanks for the post - it encourages the rest of us that have multi-year cash strapped restorations. Keep sending pics!

I like the frame shot with the bumpers on. I've never seen anyone take a picture like that. When you're finished, it will be too nice to drive!! Great work and keep the pictures coming!

what an incredible job you guys have done , I like the way you have done it as well, paint the engine bay ,put everything in it, then finish as much as possible before painting .well done

And you obviously like that colour , like me ! my DD is similar to both your corvettes colour

My cousin who's doing the restoration actually brought it to a small local car show like that, so that's why he wanted to put the bumpers on and all...

Thanks Andy... I'm sure it's not a record yet, but 16 years is a long time to wait... LOL
I have over 600 pictures on my website that you can check out... hopefully I'll be adding a few more before the end of the restoration.

Thanks bazza77... yeah I'm a little partial to orange, so I went with it. Color is Copperhead Metallic.

That rolling chassis looks great. What size tires are on that?

Not absolutely sure on a '70 model year but the top fender 'rain gutters' on my '69 are painted flat black.

Well, your car is coming along great! Estimating the additional time to get it completed (based on past 'project efficiency'), I'm guessing around 15 more years. How's your health holding up??

Bottom line: GIT 'ER DONE!!!

Hi Denis,
I firmly believe that there can't be too much attention to detail!
Plus, the last 5% of the work takes 25% of the total time…. or even more!
Again, really enjoyed the photos!
Regards,
Alan

The chassis with running gear is the most beautiful part of a really good restoration!

I commended you for the quality of work, so far. I was encouraging you to finish the project so that you could enjoy riding in the car (for a change). If you read more into my post than that, then...you read more into my post that you should have.

If you just have a very thin skin, I can't offer any assistance...

Wow, the work done to align the glass around the grills and especially the bumper tucking Is fantastic.

Have had a quick look at your site but will go back and review them all.

Thanks for posting

Hi 7T1vette... actually I'm not sure what I responded in my post to you that you think I was offended... none whatsoever and I found it funny, I actually liked your expression to get 'er done, and wanted to use the same font, that's all... I've probably been saying for 16 years that I'll get it done by the end of the year, so I was actually laughing at myself...
I'm so thick skinned, there's not much you could have said that would have offended me...
Feel free to comment any time...
