recently got a nice 70 vert , repaired the radio and I had a look in the NCRS book and it looks like this radio is the wrong one , this was a 1 owner car , me 2nd. I'm sure the PO never replaced this radio , this is what it looks like .
Either the original owner replaced it, or the radio chosen at the factory was "different" because it was slated for shipment to Canada.
Ehh?

Another possibility is that the car was a 'radio delete' vehicle and the receiving dealership was asked to install that radio before the owner took possession. Is the ignition shielding present on your car? If it is, then it wasn't a 'radio delete' car.
Thanks , I'm not going to pull the radio , I got it working a few days ago and I 'll leave it for now , the antenna cable was broken were it goes in the radio , Maybe a Canuck radio when I turned it on it was all Canadian content
Hi Ron,
Here's the appearance of the 70-71 am/fm, non stereo, radio.
It looks as if you found some ***** and concave chrome controls for behind the ***** yours would look pretty typical.
Regards,
Alan
The tuner face, the push buttons and the ***** all line up properly with the bezel openings; it's almost like that unit was made for the C3 car. That's why I'm suspicious about it being a Canadian radio that was installed for car 'headed north'.
Any early C3 Canadian owners out there who can weigh-in on this topic? Ever seen this type of head unit before?
All good points .The Canadian radio may make alot of sense also , my 80 had some quirts about it because it was a Canadian car , and so did my 04 , like daytime running lights . I'm going to leave the radio cause I got it to work , and it does look old.
