Hi Y,
The shifter bracket in your photo is damaged. It's twisted and one of the mounting nuts is missing.
Is the crossmember for a manual transmission car?
The shifter bracket mounts with 2 bolts into the crossmember and 2 bolts up from below through the transmission mount bracket.
This is a 71, 68 should be similar.
Regards,
Alan

yes it has the holes. if it is twisted shoulld i just replace it or should i try to un-twist it?
Everything in your pictures look pretty beat up . The shifter arms look like they were welded and I can't imagine how someone could damage the bracket that much. I know you don't like to spend money but I would look for some good used parts . It's not fun to install those parts when the body is on so why have problems and have to do it again .

This is from the 69 AIM and clearly shows how the bracket attaches to the crossmember and the transmission bracket. It doesn't mount directly to the transmission.
Hi yvh,
Here's a couple of photos with the drive shaft in place so you can see the position of the yoke.
Since the yoke at the differential is fixed in length the yoke at the transmission needs to be able to slide in and out.

Alan
