Default C# Buyer's Checklist

Seems a lot of prospective C3 buyers are warmly welcomed here, looking for advise on what to consider when buying a C3. Corvette Ben's "Top 10" video list on YouTube is good - it properly warns about rusty bird cages and such. But, in an effort to contribute I am including a prospective C3 buyer's checklist, hoping it helps to give prospective C3 hobbyists a head start.

For those of you who are considering this hobby, it is a blast. Be prepared to do repair work and maintenance. That is for damn certain. But, envision glancing over at your smiling spouse/girlfriend while driving down a rural road in the Fall looking down that long, beautiful C3 hood, strangers along the way giving you the thumbs up - with the T-Tops off and leaves changing color. The pain in your face from grinning (C3 owners know exactly what I'm talkin' about) all afternoon while driving the car of your dreams. It's all worth it. But, only with the right car. Hope you enjoy this C3 Buyer's Checklist from a respected author.

Hi L49,
It's a nice list.

"Check The Numbers: First just a quick visual inspection, do they look UN-tampered with, do they look like they were stamped at the factory.
These are the numbers to look at, if your looking at it as an investment, this is one of the most important things you need to look at..
Body ID Engine Number: Casting Number, RPO Codes, Date Codes, and other various stampings. Trim Tag: Vin Code, Paint Code, Transmission Code. Owners Title: Make sure it all matches with the title."

Since prospective first time 68-82 owners may not be too familiar with the car he's looking at it might help to show (with a drawing or photo) WHERE exactly to look for the various numbers and codes listed that should be checked.
Also, it might be good to list some sources of information for determining WHAT those codes should be for the car being considered.
I'm not sure how wise it is to use the word "investment" when talking about old Corvettes and numbers.
Maybe?
Regards,
Alan

Good point about the missing financial investment angle. But, they can sure pay (or charge) sizable dividends from a mental health hobby angle for us - and our wives. (even if that means we're in the garage out of their hair). I'll bet there are a few professional or armchair doctors, Counselors or (divorce) attorneys here on the Forum who could monetize that cash outflow avoidance. With the right C3 the earnback on memories is pretty significant. It's such eye candy even sitting still that it's hard to believe the financial element won't someday catch up.

Pass the parts catalog, would you? I'm feeling an urge to "invest" coming on.
