Default 69 steering box help

I am trying to determine if my steering box on my 69 vette is original. I was able to find casting# 5677649 on the side with the Saginaw "S". The top cover where grease is added has the numbers: 7802287 with "CBC" below that and a "9" below that. I am unable to find any date code. Did all boxes have date codes? I appreciate any help.

Hi a76,
The steering box body on my 71 has the same casting number as you list.
I don't think there's a casting date.
Here's the box and lid from my 71.
Regards,
Alan

Steering boxes with a cast iron cover had a casting date on the cover, ones with aluminum covers like you and Alan have do not.

I have been selling steering boxes on ebay, some have had a tag with a date attached under one of the cover bolts
