Hi 5,
No.
The use of the AIR system typically depended on the model year, the engine installed, and where the car was to be delivered.
The chart of which years/engines had AIR pumps is long… you might be better asking about what years/engines in particular you're interested in.
Regards,
Alan
Well if I can jump in, how about a 1981 L-81 350. I have this car being delivered to me next week from Texas. Most of the chevy smog pumps of this era seem to be right in front between the fan blade and the thermostat housing. I don't see one in that location in the pics of the car being delivered.
Hi,
I first see mention of the A.I.R system listed among the options for 1966 cars.
It was K-19 and required (?) for cars being delivered in California.
Regards,
Alan
My 74 454 has original smog system ....I'm not telling if it works
I think all factory C3 BB have A.I.R. System .
I have seen some years SB that did not ....seems these were L48 s
Nope, A.I.R. system were installed on "High Performance" engines. I can say for sure in '71 the 454 cu. in. 365 hp motor was NOT equipped with the early emission control device.
If anyone wants / needs an air pump for their C3, I've got a VERY complete one in very good condition (13.9k miles on the car). I've got the air pump, pulley, bracket, stock manifolds with the recirc fittings (whatever they're called, can't remember), etc.. just sitting in my garage. (Off of my 79.)
I'd love to find it a new home. ;-)
