Thanks in advance. I've been perusing some listings for cars similar to my 1975 and have seen some mention the "map light" option. My car is a fairly well optioned standard interior car and all the interior lights seem to function properly. I don't think I have a map light though. Where is it located, and assuming I don't have it, can I add one fairly easily? I'll be taking the dash apart this winter to install new speakers, so it may be a timely addition...

It was part of the rearview mirror.

Essentially you swap your unlighted mirror for the unit with the map light. Wiring runs along the windshield frame and A pillar. The AIM shows the installation.
Hi Highlander,
The optional Map Light UF1 on the rear view mirror was first introduced in 1973. It was on the lower right bottom edge of the mirror. Operated by a sliding switch. There was also a decal on the left side bottom edge of the mirror with the bulb changing instructions. Attached is a photo of a restored 8 inch 73 mirror with the Map Light. As you can see from Peterbuilts AIM illustration, it would involve a good bit of work to install one on your 75. Anyway, who needs a Map Light today? Just use your cell phone GPS right?

A good clue to if your car originally came with the map light would be to check for the remnants of the mounting tape for the wire under the driver's a pillar trim.

It really isn't a whole lot of work...run the wire under the header trim and a pillar trim and down to the fuse panel and plug into the mirror with a map light.

Thanks very much! I had no idea what I was looking for, having never seen it before. True about the new tech though. No real need for a map, much less a map light.
