Default Rear End Fluid

Decided to change fluid in rear on 1976 . When I pulled the plug it seeped a little out of the hole . But when I siphoned it out there only seems to be around 33 ozs. How much is it suppose hold . Hasn't been changed in 30 years and other then being black , its not real thick and doesn't seem to have anything in it .

You fill it till it runs out the hole....Don't forget the anti-slip additive.

Put a smaller hose in it and let it drip all night looks like somewhere between 45 and 50 oz . The additive says 4 oz for 2 to 4 quarts. Do you have to reduce it for under 2 quarts or still use the whole thing?

Use the whole bottle of additive.

Just finished up taking it out for a drive . It took 49 oz of fluid plus the 4 oz. additive 53 oz. total . Had a clanking sound in back before I did it seems to have goon away .

Another question . Didn't pay a lot of attention when I removed the fill plug . Figured it would be tuff because of it not be removed for over 30 years but wasn't . It did have some surface rust which I removed and the o ring was bad .When I put it back I was able to get a few turns on it by hand to make sure I wasn't cross threaded but it didn't bottom out when I tightened it . I took it back out made sure it was clean and hand threaded it as far as I could but when I tightened it, it still stopped probably 3 turns from bottom .Is this correct ?

O-ring? It's a pipe plug, so it should tighten before bottoming out. Maybe someone smeared RTV on the threads and that's what you took for an o-ring.
