Going through some old pics of the paint job stuff and i find these.
Pic 1 door panel
Pic 2 door panel
Pic 3 not sure what it is of
Car has a build date of Dec 11th 1974, yes its a 1975 model, one owner, picked it up on Dec 27th 1974. It has been to Keystone Chevy/Nickey Chevy/ Illinois for some minor items but nothing that would require the door panel being replaced......
So, why does the one door panel have a date of Mar 12 1975? the other door panel says Dec 3 1974... I do not know what the third picture is of but it looks like Made In Canada '76"--"261174"
Any info welcome/helpfull..
Yes, after 42 years i forget some stuff......
Hi M75,
Typically a car with a build date of December 11, 1974 wouldn't/couldn't have a door panel with a March 12, 1975 date installed on it.
So one of 2 things happened…. either the person who stamped the door panel had his stamp set incorrectly that day, or the panel was put on the car later in it's life.
The third photo 'appears' to be the underside of a roof panel interior trim panel with the date of the 26th day of November, 1974.
Regards,
Alan

Your door panels were produced about four months apart. One in December and one the following March. The 1975 panel was installed on the car sometime after March of 75, possibly under warranty.

Your Canada stamp is a manufacturer's mark. I can't tell whether it says 16 or 76.

The March 75 panel appears to have been recovered (based on what appears to be two layers of vinyl) so perhaps it was replaced under warranty as suggested above.

Sounds like the one door panel was damaged at the dealer and replaced without telling you of the damage . You bought the car new and know the whole history so it is the only answer. They probably just ate the loss and figured it was best not to even tell you about the accident . I worked in the dealers and saw that kind of thing.

I still does not explain the later date on the one panel . I think the whole panel was changed out due to some kind of damage happening at the dealer ( maybe a sharp tool hanging out of someone's pocket ) .

Were these photos taken by you? Did you paint the car, or did a paint shop remove the door panels when the car was painted?
If a paint shop had possession of your car and removed the panels when it was painted, then maybe something happened to your original '74 panel and they replaced it with a '75 panel.
My dad was in the paint/body shop business....I saw a lot of stuff happen.

I am going with Alan's explanation.
Yes, the car had the back half painted at the dealer shortly after getting it, maybe the body shop screwed up the door panel and just replaced it with another deluxe panel and never said anything to me.
These are my pictures taken recently, car was Steel Blue originally. then Steel city gray, now Electric Blue so i can vouch for the last 42 years of paint/custom stuff and just now noticed the dates being different on the door panels.
