Does anyone know the length of the bolt you remove to access the fuel pump pushrod to keep it in place when replacing a fuel pump. I know the bolt is a 3/8 x 16 I just don't know the length. Mine is missing. Application Small block 350 L82 / 1977.
Hi Mike,
In many cases you don't need the bolt.
Often if you smear some heavy grease on the rod and slip it into position it stays in place on its own while you bolt the fuel pump in place.
Maybe?
Regards,
Alan

I think he is missing the original bolt, and not trying to use the bolt to hold the rod in place during pump installation. I was surprised to find mine missing also last year when I replaced the fuel pump - it explained the slight oil leak I was having (although I was really surprised that it didn't leak more with the bolt missing).

That is correct. Mine is missing. I to could not figure where I was leaking oil to include oil on my lower radiator hose to the water pump.
Read some articles stating oil can spray out at higher RPM.
