Default Found a possible project car

One owner, numbers matching 1968 327/350, 4 speed with AC and Am/FM Stereo.
Was/is Polar White, Bright Blue Vinyl interior. Car is 97% + complete. Functional % unknown.

I was told it was parked 10 years ago and was in running condition when parked . Stored improperly to say the least. But it is lucky it is staying in a dry climate.

Bird Cage seems to be alright, Frame solid. Does have some front end damage. broken back window. All tires flat the car is almost resting on the concrete. It also has some of the typical bubba work that seems to accompany corvettes.
One concern is the steering wheel seems to be very close to the seat. I mean very close. Before a closer inspection I had offered 5K, now I think that was to high.

Any ideals?

Agree! and if rust is manageable and really a 350hp L79, IMHO, this is about as good as a bargain you will likely find. Of course you could always get luckier later with another find.

If you decide to pass, please post more info here as somebody will want it. Also even if these kinds of Corvettes were free, they would still need mucho money and time to bring back, LOL's!

Good luck!

I appreciate everyone's input. It helps a lot. The more I think about it's too good to pass up. I just needed a little push. I am going to try to seal the deal tomorrow.

I have verified the 327 block is an HP code and stamped to match car, the heads are 291,s with temp sending unit, the carb is a Rochester Q-jet 7028219, which are correct for a 68 Vette 327/350 with manual trans and AC. The intake and exhaust are also correct for a 68.
Also as seen in one of the photos it has power windows.

Does anyone know what is the rectangle hole in the bottom right hand corner of the shifter indicator plate is for?

Hole is aftermarket not original

You don't usually get much in a 68 with 4 speed and matching numbers for $5,000. and parts can be very expensive and sometimes hard to find so I'm not surprised that this car looks rough , but you would be surprised that sometimes a car like this can sometimes be a diamond in the rough . A dry climate probably saved it a lot and just shows a lot of dust and grime. So that being said I would say that it is definitely worth checking out . It could be the find of your life !

Sweet find. A $5K Vette here in the rust belt would look like it was pulled out of the ocean. Maybe I'm wrong but isn't an HP code for a 300 horse w/AC and power steering? Still a great find though.

I found this

1968 Chevrolet Corvette Engine Options

Location Of Engine Code: Stamped on the block in front of the right hand cylinder head.

Letter Code Engine Horsepower Torque Transmission Carburetor
HE 8-327 300 360 3 & 4-Speed Manual 4 BC
HO 8-327 300 360 Turbo Hydra-Matic 4 BC
HP 8-327 # 350 360 4-Speed Manual 4 BC
HT 8-327 # 350 360 4-Speed Manual 4 BC
# Special High Performance
* = High Performance
I have found numerous websites that says 300 hourse and several others are like above.
I have a Chevy casting numbers book that shows the carb 7028219 was for high performance 327. The 300 hp had a 7028207 or 208 Rochester
carb.

Well which is it 300 or 350 hp? The tach shows a red line at 6000 rpm,

Yes, that wheel looks close, the seat may be a notch or 2 forward, but the 68 here does have that fixed position steering and not much room between seat and wheel even when all the way back. 68's also had a bulky door panel that cramped you in and not too comfortable for your left arm. The seatback had a an uncomfortable incline that later was changed. I had to exchange my 68 column to a tilt and telegraph from '69 just so I could get in my '68.

It looks like everything is there, even the radio. All original 68 L79!!!! If you gave up on it you would have enough parts alone to recoup your costs. Congrats, have fun with the restoration. I would start with lots of pics and then clean up the dirt. Get that baby running and stopping and go for a cruise, then start restoring this winter. Good luck!!!

Get a "Corvette Black Book" by Mike Antonick

Get a NCRS 1968 69 Technical Information Manual and Judging Guide

Both excellent reading and resources.

Good luck with your find!
