Last year, shortly after I bought my 68, I was sitting at a light and my wife says to me, "That guy just waved at you." I was looking down at the radio and looked up and said, "Who waved?" and my wife replies, "That guy that just went by in the corvette."
Now I keep my eyes peeled and have yet to get another wave.
We get waves, whistles, clapping, people pointing. Love it when you come to the lights and there's a pair of kids and one says "wow, whats that!!" so they go around to the back and the other one says "hey its a Corvette, thats super cool". Bare in mind we're in Australia and Corvettes are not the norm, quite few and far between, so they generate quite a bit of attention.
Like today we popped into town for a coffee, and the whole half hour everyone was gawking and pointing at it, one lady even went up and touched the front fender (?), like feeling its curve. And to top it off this bloke from another country videoed it and waited for us to get back in and videoed it as we drove past him.
Other Vette people here always wave, we're a small community
well said 72downunder, we are a smaller group here in Australia, but what i have found when i am driving/cruising down the freeway, people pull up beside you, sit on same speed just to be next to a corvette. I dont have a problem with that, except for when i want to exit the freeway and they are blocking my way. Even my wife has got into the practice of waving to all who way at us. It is great to own a corvette and to see people looking at your car and drooling over it. I had the misfortune of being pulled over by the police, me not watching the speed (over the speed limit) first thing the policeman said was "Nice car/Corvette" but he still booked me

Aww, that's so sad! I'd have been heartbroken, but at least you know he waved, there is that to hold on to. Surely you're bound to run into someone again who will wave.
Doorgunner, I love that car. What year is it? I'd heard Disney said they just picked "a lot of cars they liked and mashed them together" when they drew Lightning, but that's pretty close to what he looks like. I can totally see how a child would get that. Especially if they were anything like my kids were and watched it 15 times a day!

Hey grumpy here's a wave from a fellow Oz.
Bugger on getting booked, too easy to speed in these cars . Talking police attention, got more than a wave when we drove into the servo to get fuel a while back. This police chap who was in with the attendant, and as I was passing by to pay he stopped me and said mind if I have a look at your Corvette. initially I mentally gulped but he said I'm not searching or booking you just want to have a plain old geek at something special, don't see many of these around do ya? and then we started chatting. i told him be my guest, and that my wife was in the car, while I went to pay the fuel bill. She certainly got a start when he showed up at her door in his full uniform. You could almost see her visually relax after he explained that he'd chatted to me about it. He hung around for 15 minutes and we chatted some about muscle cars, and that he's in the process of looking for one. Ended up being a real nice experience.
I think the wave is coming back. I'm getting more from C5's and up. I think they are guys that owned a vette when they were young. But, I wave at at everyone, all Vettes and all classics.
