That was the dealer-painted 4-digit dealer stock number. They hand wrote it on the warranty book as well. Many dealers bought little stickers to put on the windshield and then remove when the car was delivered to the first owner.
Your original dealer was just less respectful of the new car.
I would be more interested in knowing why it didn't sell until June of 1983.

Thanks so much! I think the car didn't sell for 11 months because 1.) people were still hoping the 1983 would be produced or they decided to wait for the 1984s. 2.) The car was a radio delete car so nobody wanted it until the dealer installed a $1000 sound system. I also have an idea that the orders for 1982 Vettes were so few that GM "sent" the less desirable models to dealers whether they wanted them or not?
