Hi S,
The seat tracks really can't be taken apart unless you drill out the large rivets.
You can restore them assembled with some careful 'sliding' and taping.
Regards,
Alan
The 'slide' that bolts to the bottom of the seat was left 'natural'.

Kind of what I suspected. Thank you Alan for your reply.
Hey Alan, if you don't mind me asking you what your secret is.( I respect good old fashioned elbow grease). The finish I get from media blasting is dull as I'm sure your aware . how do you get a "natural finish" like that. I sure have a lot to learn!!
Hi S,
The 'dark' part of the seat tracks were originally manganese phosphate coated.
This is a process that involves dipping the part in a heated 'bath'. I taped-up the parts of the tracks I didn't want to be coated to protect them while in the bath.
A similar appearance can be accomplished with zinc phosphate paint or you can just paint them with semi-flat black paint.
What ever you do requires that the tracks be thoroughly cleaned and de-rusted first.

Alan
When I did my tracks last month I used paint thinner in a tub to wash out all the greasy and oily dirt. Then I used simple green and washed with hot water. At this point I then used red Scotchbrite to remove trace rust and loose paint and blew them off with an air hose outside and inside. I then used spray Impact Etching Primer in black all over and then proceeded to coat with Sems Black Trim paint to match the correct gloss. Once cured I used a special spray from IXL that sprays grease into the tracks. Amazing stuff...shoots like paint but when the solvent evaporates it leaves a healthy coat of EP additive grease. I had both my tracks done and looking new in a few hours. People came by the house and couldn't believe how they looked and how smooth they operated.
